Greetings ADF members and supporters,
I am pleased to introduce myself as the first Executive Director of the Alaska Design Forum. The ADF board members and volunteers have developed a high-quality program that I am proud to represent.
Whether it is bringing a slate of nationally and internationally-known lecturers to Alaska or collaborating on exciting community-focused programs such as Object Runway, the ADF is a resource for design education.
We have an exciting lecture season in store for you! “BLING” investigates the role of ornamentation in contemporary design, and we are kicking it off with lectures by Icelandic fashion designer Steinunn Sigurðardóttir. Sigurðardóttir will also offer a unique workshop in Anchorage, free and family-friendly, called “Rhythm Knitting” at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art on Friday, January 24 from 4-6 pm, preceding her lecture. Check out our newly designed website and keep a look-out for our BLING season poster, designed by Karen Larsen. It will wow you!
Over the 10 years I’ve lived in Alaska I’ve seen community support for the arts, architecture and design grow, and I’m excited about the fertile ground for new programs and projects. I’m pleased to be part of this movement, and help lead the Design Forum to expand our programming, develop partnerships and broaden community involvement. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
