Matthew Burtner is an Alaskan-born composer, sound artist and eco-acoustician whose music and research explores embodiment, ecology, polytemporality and noise. First Prize winner of the Musica Nova International competition and an IDEA Award winner, Burtner’s music also received honors and prizes from the Bourges (France), Gaudeamus (Netherlands), Darmstadt (Germany) and The Russolo (Italy) international competitions. On the occasion of the Parma Records release of Matthew’s “Glacier Music” album (Ravello/Naxos), this presentation tour features a discussion and interactive demonstration of Matthew’s approach to ecoacoustics across a wide range of environmental systems, including Alaskan glacial dynamics, Guatemalan lava floes, and sound casting of a cathedral in Venice, Italy.
