The Alaska Design Forum is initiating an open call for new members of our Board of Trustees in 2021.
The Alaska Design Forum’s mission is to broaden the discussion around design and the built environment in Alaska. We believe that in order to fulfill this mission, we must include a wide range of input and leadership from not only the design professions, but also from our diverse community.
Alaska is in a unique geographic, climatic and social setting. We as individuals and as a community constantly strive to develop a unique and appropriate design response to this setting. Design has the ability to empower – or disenfranchise – all individuals. We recognize that in order to equitably address the challenges of design in Alaska, our organization must elevate the diverse voices of the design professions, and we must become a platform for diverse voices to represent design in Alaska. We hope that this call for board members will create a better and more representative forum for design in Alaska by inviting new perspectives.
The Alaska Design Forum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and our Board of Directors is a dedicated, volunteer group of working professionals who advocate for design, who are tasked with organizing dialogues on design and the built environment in Alaska through public programming, lectures, films series, installations, and social events.
Our board is a volunteer board, and on average, we each put in about 5 hours per week, which fluctuates based on the season and the timing of our events. We have a monthly board meeting, and we work in committees between each board meeting. Each board member is expected to be part of at least one committee.
We are asking that individuals who are interested apply, and we also welcome nominations. We invite anyone who is passionate about design and its power for positive impact, regardless of their level of experience working in or with the design professions.
Nominations and applications should be emailed to info@alaskadesignforum.org by December 15th, 2020.
We ask that applicants and nominations include a package introducing oneself or the nominee. Applicants are encouraged to include information and items such as:
- a bio introducing the candidate
- community references
- a description of one’s work, one’s community involvement, or a portfolio or resume if applicable
- an explanation of why the applicant is interested in joining the board, or why a nominee would be a positive member of the board
- contact information
Our selection process will be based on the applicant’s interest level, their dedication to design, their availability to volunteer, and their skillsets.
