Fly By Design: AUSTRALIA took place on November 3-10, 2019. The tour explored the cultural capitals of Eastern Australia. Guests spent four nights in Sidney and three nights in Melbourne, and experienced architectural icons, met design practitioners and explored art, cuisine, landscape, music and fashion to better connect with the places and culture.
3 days in Melbourne
A short flight to the south coast will bring us to Melbourne, the booming arts and design hub of the southern hemisphere. Here we will rub elbows with some of Australia’s leading design talent, sample contemporary art, fashion, music and cuisine. Melbourne is recognized as a street art and street music capital and features a setting that contrasts skyscrapers with Victorian row houses.
Finale in Sydney
Returning to Sydney Saturday evening, we will wake early on Sunday and make the short drive to the Simpson Lee House, designed by ADF alumnus and Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt. Mr. Murcutt will give us a tour of this elegant mountain retreat. On the return drive to Sydney we will stop for lunch with Glenn and arrive back in the city late afternoon. We will conclude here and guests may continue exploring on their own or return home.
