Tucker Viemeister is a distinguished industrial designer and innovator, who designs items from toasters to trucks. He co-founded Smart Design in 1979, where he helped conceive and design OXO Good Grips universal kitchen tools and Serengeti sunglasses, as well as breakthrough products for Cuisinart, Black & Decker, and Timex.

Over the course of 4 years beginning in 1997, Viemeister successively opened frogdesign’s New York office, established Razorfish’s physical design capability group, and developed Springtime-USA. As Lab Chief at Rockwell Group, he built interactive experiences for Coca-Cola, JetBlue, and the Venice Architecture Biennale. Later, he designed exhibitions as Director of Special Projects for Ralph Appelbaum Associates.

He is now President of Viemeister Industries, focusing on products for aging and designing interpretive environments. Recently, he teamed up with software giant Microsoft to build an electronic voting machine that could boost security of paper ballots.

Viemeister has taught at Yale University, the Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, and California Institute of the Arts. He holds 32 US utility patents, and his work is in MoMA and other the permanent collections.  New York magazine recognized Viemeister as a “Living Design Innovator”. He was named after a car prototype designed by his father.
